Back To School Bonanza Changes Location

- By Pat Harris

LINCOLN — The annual Back to School Bonanza will change locations this year but otherwise all will be the same with lots of backpacks, shoes, socks and more to help parents get their children ready for the 2013-2014 school year.

The event, sponsored by Central United Methodist Church, for Lincoln school children from kindergarten through fifth grade will take place at the National Guard Armory due to the Lincoln Public Library temporarily using the Community Center as the new public library is being built.

“This is a service we want to provide for the community and any child who had a need,” said Marty Lunsford, wife of the Rev. Gary Lunsford. “We won’t turn anyone away.”

Lunsford said not only will backpacks, shoes and socks be available for as long as they last, but free haircuts will be available, dental check- ups will be done and the Washington County Sheriff ’s Office will be on hand to furnish parents with identification cards for their children.

Lunsford said the event, though it is sponsored by the Lunsford’s church, has volunteers through-out the community who help with the bonanza each year, including other area churches.

“This is an outreach program for anyone who has a need,” Lunsford said.

The event is set for Aug. 6 from 4-7 p.m. at the Lincoln National Guard Armory, 705 W. Pridemore Drive.

Children must be accompanied by an adult to the event.
