Track Finally Acceptable To Lincoln School Board

- By Pat Harris

LINCOLN — The track at Lincoln High School remained a problem months after the new school opened last August but it seems problems with the track have been smoothed out.

Steven Elliot, architect for the school, and Roger Ross, co- owner of Benchmark Construction Co., addressed the Lincoln School Board at its July 15 meeting, reporting truckloads of water had been spread over the track and except for three areas termed “birdbath” size, the track looked good.

Elliot said there was a need to to roll the inner edge flatter to allow for better drainage.

Ross said there was some tar to clean up on posts and two other surfaces would need redoing but other than that, the track is ready.

“It looks like a good job,” said Dax Moreton, board president.

Moreton and the board were not happy with the track in November when Clay Hendrix, former superintendent, said the track was unacceptable.

Ross later met with the board and agreed the track had not been done properly. He agreed to redo the track. The board accepted his proposal to fix it right.

“They took the old surface off and got a brand new surface on it,” Elliot told the board at the recent meeting.

“We appreciated what you guys have done — you’ve worked hard,” said Scott Davis, board member.

Moreton asked Elliot if additional lights could be put on the lighting already in existence, so the track could be lighted at night. Elliot said he would ask his electrical engineer but thought it would be a “simple” process.

The board voted 3- 0 to accept the track contingent upon further smoothing of the track. Connie Meyer and Kendra Moore were absent from the meeting.
