Losing Old Trees Sad

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

There will be no Fun City or other local parties for our two birthday celebrants this week. As I write this, they both are celebrating out of town. Kate, who turned six years-old on July 15, is vacationing on Hilton Head Island, S.C., with her parents Dean and Misty Cheatham and brothers Derek and Hudson. Our littlest, Mason Roy, two years-old on July 17, is spending this week with his parents Craig and Sheryl and sister Addison in Pensacola, Fla. Fun for the whole family.

The rain showers last week were most welcome but they came with a price. Lightening struck one of the old pine trees at Beaty Cemetery. Though it was about dead, it is sad to see it come down, for it seemed to be an old tree ever since I can remember. The lightening didn’t hit the tree next to it, which has an eagle’s nest at the top. However, the boys seem to think this tree needs to be cut too. How sad.

Last week in printing, the punch line was omitted from a joke (not funny) so we’re repeating:

The minister announced that admission to the church social would cost $6 per person.

“However,” he said, “if you’re over 65, the price will only be $5.50.

From the back of the congregation a woman shouted, “Do you really think I’d give you that information for only 50-cents?”

Happy birthday to Tara Stathakis, Natasha Murray, McKenzie Pretty and Easton Pretty (twins), Betty Mitchell, Daniel Bradley, Jerry Murray, Julie Davis, Mike Cox, Max Roeder, Wanda Bentley, Bryley Bradley, Dawson Myers, Vernice Pennel, Nicholas Lyons, Wilma Shannon, Megan Roy, Gene Holloway, Bonnie Watson.

Happy years, all.
