Washington County Enterprise-Leader
Family Attends Funeral
This Friday, Aug. 9, will be the last day the library will be open, until the new library is completed. We still miss Nikki [Morris], the former library director, and now we will miss our current library ladies for some months.
The drop box will still be in front of the community building until Oct. 2, but all items dropped there after Aug. 16 will be late and fines due. All who wish, can visit and use your card in all other Washington County libraries, except in Fayetteville.
Several family members from Arkansas attended the funeral of our beloved sisterin-law Jean Myers in Muskogee on Monday. We are now left with precious memories of our very special sister and aunt.
While driving through Porter, Okla., last week, we stopped at a produce stand to see about some peaches, $27 for a half- bushel. I thought of a time when peaches were $3 a bushel, and we thought that was too high, and rightfully so, when we received only 50-cents per bushel for apples.
Keith and Karen Lipford, Garret, Caleb and Allee made a trip last week to Lancaster, S.C., where they attended the funeral of Keith’s grandmother, Ann Rallings. I met Ma Ann only once, and found her to be a sweet, independent, “mind of her own” little lady. She lived alone until the last few months. She would have been 99 years-old on Aug. 31.
Brace yourselves for more hot weather but it is back to school month, as well as get ready for kindergarten; catfish month; family fun and you’re happy month; and picnic time, so enjoy August. Just stay cool.
Happy birthday to Dorothy Borchardt, Jean McKelvy, Emogene Mutchinson, Ron Thomas, Robbie Reed, Harold Nelson, Jackie Bradley, Larry Meyer.
Belated anniversary greetings to Bob and Dana Harrell, their 62nd was Aug. 6. May they enjoy many more together.
Remember recycling next Monday.
