COMPANY PLANS TO HOLD AUCTIONS WHEN IT OPENS

- By Pat Harris

Insurance Auto Auctions, a subsidiary of KAR Auction Services, is opening an auto auction business at the junction of U.S. 62 East and Arkansas 45.

The former business, A+U Pull It, had been located on the property.

Scott Fulkerson, developer of the property, said the area covers 17 acres with 10 acres to be used by IAA for the auction business.

There will be an 8- foot tall white fence with red trim around the property with gates to hide the hundreds of wrecked vehicles that will be auctioned off after Nov. 1 when the business opens.

Chuck Wood, city manager, said a building also will be built on the property.

“I think we’ll get revenue from the business from those who come into the area for the auctions,” Wood said. “They will probably come to Lincoln to utilize our restaurants and stations. That’s how we’ll get extra revenue. And some jobs, we hope.”

The Lincoln Planning Commission held a public hearing on March 12 because of a rezoning request by IAA. The request was to rezone the property from A1, agriculture, to M2, general industry.

Wood said at the meeting the A1 zoning was left when the city had annexed the property. “It was grandfathered in at the A1 zoning.”

No one attended a public hearing to protest the rezoning, so commis- sioners approved it and sent it to the Lincoln City Council, who also approved changing the zoning.

Steve Tibble, director of construction at Insurance Auto Auctions, said an auction would be held each month.

Commissioners and aldermen

also approved a conditional use permit for a salvage auto yard, auto grave yard and rebuild shop at the location, however IAA is only an auction company and will not be selling parts nor will it be a salvage yard.

The corporate office for KAR Auction Services and Insurance Auto Auctions is Carmel, Ind.

A phone call to Jeanene O’Brien, marketing director for IAA, resulted in getting a voice mail message that she was on vacation. An email sent to Tibble for more information resulted in being directed to O’Brien.
