LINCOLN LAKE FESTIVAL PROVIDES PLENTY TO DO

- By Lynn Kutter

LINCOLN — Chilly temperatures Saturday morning gave way to a beautiful, fall day for the fifth year of the Lincoln Lake Festival.

“It’s been great. We have people all over the woods,” said David Justice, lake superintendent with the city of Lincoln.

He estimated that 300-400 people participated in the festival, by hiking the trails around the lake, paddling kayaks or canoes on Lake Lincoln, riding mountain bikes, rock climbing or ziplining from one tree to another.

Cabela’s outdoor store was a vendor for the first time this year and the store provided food cooked over a camp stove, including peach and mixed berry cobblers and camp hash. Staff brought kayaks and fishing gear and spent time displaying how to fly fish for brim and perch in a small lake.

“We think it’s great,” said Amy Shell of Greenland, who attended the festival with her husband and two daughters. One daughter tried her hand at rock climbing and made it up part way before deciding that was enough.

Jason and Sonia Taylor only live about three miles from Lincoln Lake and frequently hike the trails.

“This is a great place,” said Sonia Taylor. “We come because of the beauty of it.”

Jason Taylor just finished a 30-mile hike on the Ozark Highlands Trail and he said the trail around Lincoln Lake is just as beautiful as the Ozark Highlands hike.
