This Saturday, Nov. 9, the Cincinnati community will host a fundraiser at the fire station, a benefit to help defray the medical expenses and cost of many surgeries of Marty McReynolds. Events include a chili supper at 5 p.m. and a pie-baked goods auction. A variety items auction includes a Sony flat screen TV, Kenmore deep freezer, Zebco rod and reel, tools, Walmart gift cards, dinner for two, two Anderson’s propane gift cards of $ 50 each and many other items.

Marty is a 1982 graduate of Lincoln High School, and I’m sure some of his class members are still in the area and would like to help their former classmate.

Due to illness and other causes, many members were absent and missed at Sugar Hill Church on Sunday, but the lesson on “Standing On God’s Promises” was very inspiring, as well as Pastor Rick’s message. Bud and Paula Cox and Ken Davis provided music in the absence of pianist Chris Rogers. Bud and Paula also gave a special presentation singing, “The Old Country Church” and recitation concerning the same — really meaningful for those of us who grew up attending an old country church. Precious memories.

As we adapt to the change in time (fall back on hour), we have much to celebrate in November. It is pecan, peanut butter lovers and vegan month; healthwise, it is flu awareness, sleep comfort, diabetes, lung cancer awareness, Alzheimer’s disease and healthy skin month. Lastly, it is “I am so thankful” month for the yearly Thanksgiving celebration, and Nov. 11, when we show our appreciation and remember and honor our veterans, past and present.

Happy birthday to Leo Bradley, Tommy Tucker, Matt Pinkerton, Willis Winkler, Brandon Bradley, John Griscom, Patrick Wooton, Wesley Martsching, Traci Pitts and Jean Helm. Happy years, all. Due the the holiday, there will be no recycling at Harp’s on Monday, Nov. 11.
