Lincoln Establishes Record

- By Mark Humphrey Enterprise-Leader

LINCOLN —The passage in 2 Corinthians 5:17, old things are passed away, all things become new, could describe the complete turnaround in the mentality of the Lincoln football program.

On Friday, Lincoln established a new school record for most wins in a season by soundly defeating Ozark, 52-14, to run their season record to 8-1. The Wolves are 5-1 in the 4A-1 Conference and have qualified for the state football playoffs for only the third time in school history with one game left in the regular-season.

Among the new things at Lincoln are: Wolfpack Stadium, new uniforms, an undefeated season at home (5-0), most points in a season (366), fewest points allowed in a season ( 93), most points in a game (71) and biggest shutout win (71-0 over Dover).

“We’ve been close. We go to school together, we play sports together, football, basketball and baseball,” said three-year starter Danny Calvillo.

“We’ve never had eight wins. It’s great to have eight wins,” said Alec Pitts. “We’ve slowly built the program. With Coach Harris we slowly started winning games.”

“Before Coach Harris came we didn’t win very many games. We’ve been playing together since the fourth grade. It’s fun being around them all the time. We have a lot of two-year and three-year starters.

“Last year I didn’t get to play because the homeschool rule changed. Coach Harris kept encouraging me to come back, especially after the Prairie Grove [2012] game,” said Timmy Alexander. “The coaches are great. Just interacting with people, it’s been great. They’re like family to me.”
