Winds Can Blow Life’s Way

- Troy Conrad PASTOR TROY CONRAD IS MINISTER OF THE FARMINGTON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH.

Whenever you are reluctant to change, think of the beauty of autumn.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

I had the blessing recently of having to drive down to Fort Smith and back. I say blessing because all of the beauty of God’s great creation was in full display along I-540. Each hill I drove over a new vista of ever changing colors rose to meet me. It truly was breathtaking.

When I got home, it rained. And most of the leaves on my trees fell off.

I went from being full of inspiration because of the splendor of nature to being in a funk because my trees were bare. One thing kept running through my mind. “How much we are so like the leaves of a tree.”

Some days we are full of energy and go into the world displaying all of God’s love in the things we do. Our moods are upbeat and our compassion rings through.

Some days we’re blown to and fro from the winds of life and we’re never sure which way is up or down. Some days it rains. But in all of these days we are still the same tree. Growing and reaching out to the Son.

Sometimes it storms and sometimes the sun shines and sometimes we become beautiful and breathtaking. But in all times, we truly are God’s beautiful creatures.

Now, if I can just remember where I put my rake. Let us pray. Dear God. We thank you for this new day, God. Yet sometimes we’re not very good at giving thanks. We tend to be takers more than givers.

You give us so much, only we get so turned around that we can’t see what you provide for us, each and every day. We get so lost in the struggle to make ends meet. Forgive us, Lord, and free us for joyful obedience through your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
