Senior Center Receives Donation

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — The Farmington Senior Center opened the holiday season with a gift: donation from Arvest Bank and its annual One Million Meals campaign.

The bank donated $976.28 to the senior center for its Meals on Wheels program.

“We are so grateful to Arvest Bank for all they do for us,” said Lisa McClelland, site manager. “They are always supportive of seniors and what to do at the senior center.”

McClelland said the donation will “help us keep seniors in their homes as long as possible.”

Nora Taylor, branch manager for Arvest Bank in Farmington, said branches are allowed to select the non-profit organization of their choice. This is the third year that the Farmington branch has given its donation to the senior center.

The One Million Meals campaign raises money to combat hunger in the communities served by Arvest Bank. Taylor said Farmington Arvest Bank raised some of its money through plate sales and by wearing jeans to work but most of the money came from customers’ donations.

The Farmington Senior Center has a full schedule for December. A trip to Eureka Springs is planned for Dec. 2. The center’s Meals on Wheels truck and van will participate in the Farmington Christmas Parade on Dec. 7. On Tuesday, Dec. 17, seniors will go out to eat and tour Christmas lights on display. The center’s annual Christmas lunch and party will be Friday, Dec. 20.

Regularly scheduled activities also will take place in December. These include exercise classes, card games, music and dances. For more information, contact the center at 479-267-5709.
