School Chief Issues Annual Report

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — School Superintendent Bryan Law addressed one school board member and seven administrators as he gave the district’s Annual Report to the Public on Thursday night.

His report was recorded and will be available for the public to view through the school website, www.farmcards.org.

The school started the 2013-14 school year with a beginning balance of $736,711. The district projects to receive $18.2 million in revenue. Budgeted expenses for the year are $8.5 million in salaries, $7.8 million for operating costs and $2 million for debt payments.

“We estimate our revenues a little bit tight and overestimate our expenses,” Law said.

For 2013- 14, Farmington will receive $314,821 in federal funds for Title 1 and $44,202 in federal funds for Title II programs or special education services.

All schools in the district are accredited and the school district recently received another five-year certification for AdvancEd.

“This shows the level of commitment by our principals to do that,” Law said. “It is above the call of duty.”

The goals on the school’s improvement plan are to improve math and literacy scores, provide a safe and drug- free environment, provide a wellness component and to see an improvement in English learners.

Law reported on the district’s scores for the 2013 Arkansas Benchmark tests and End-of-Course Exams.

“I’m very proud of our test scores,” Law said. “We are in the top five of the region for most grades in math and literacy.”

The district’s fifth graders were number one in the region for their scores on the fifth grade science test.
