-

Princess contestant Cheyanne Nix is an 11-year-old from Lincoln. She is the daughter of Rob and Becky Nix. Cheyanne is in the fifth grade at Lincoln Middle School where she has received Honor Roll medals for K-4th grade. Cheyanne received the Terrific Kid Award from Kiwanis. She hopes to become a veterinarian and a member of a riding team like the Rounders or Sky High Angels. Cheyanne was recognized by ARVEST Bank Million Meals Program for being the individual Lincoln student who collected/donated the most food.

“My horse is Executive Kittie, she is a sorrell and white paint mare. She is 8 years old, has a great disposition and confirmation and is a terrific barrel horse. I have been riding her for just over a year and I think we make a great team,” Cheyanne said. “Before Kittie, I rode a Buckskin horse named Bucky for two years, he was also a great horse and friend, and I love them both very much.”

Cheyanne was the 2013 NWA Riding Club Playdays 9-13 Champ. She was the Lincoln Riding Club Playdays 2009 Class A Champ. She has competed in the Washington County Fair horse show, and barrel raced at the Lincoln and Westville, Okla., Rodeos.

She also competed for Little Miss Lincoln Rodeo when she was in kindergarten.

Cheyanne won 2013 Dreamstar Miss Liberty Overall Supreme Queen, 2012 Dreamstar Cinco de Mayo Princess, 2011 and 2012 Miss Congeniality Dreamstar Stilwell, Okla., Christmas Pageant, Lulu’s Country Cuties National Photo Pageant 5-15 Supreme Winner. Cheyanne was awarded certificates in 2011, 2012, and 2013 for modeling in the International Cultural Fashion Show representing the USA organized by NWACC.

Cheyanne is part of many other activities. She has been a Girl Scout for six years and has received awards for gift of caring and community service. She has been a Lincoln Pee Wee Cheerleader for the last two years where she received the Team Spirit Award Lil Lady Wolves. She is a member of the Garden Club, Stargazers, and Watch D.O.G. S. Kids Team. She loves reading, arts and crafts, caring for animals, spending time with family and friends, volunteer work and sharing things she has learned with younger children.

“Rodeo and horseback riding bring me tons of joy and pride. I am never happier than when I am on my horse, it is like we become one, the movement of the horse through the patterns and speeds feel like nature,” Cheyanne said. “Rodeo has taught me to be tough and work hard and that with dedication and practice you can accomplish your dreams and find your place in the world.”

“Lincoln is my home and I am never more at home than when I am riding. I have loved horses all my life but, when I was five, I was invited to a LRC playday. I was so excited when we drove up to the arena, the horses were so beautiful, and the people were so welcoming. When my turn came to ride, my heart was racing. Daddy lifted me up onto the saddle and by the time Blackie and I were led around the third barrel I was in love with rodeo.”

For Cheyanne the Lincoln Arena and the Lincoln Riding Club have a special place in her heart. Lincoln Arena is where she competed in her first play day, first barrel run and first place she rode by herself, and also where she won her first buckle and saw her first rodeo.

“I will never forget that first rodeo, I was definitely ‘ bit by the bug.’ I have met so many wonderful people at the LRC that I have learned so much from. I have loved watching Bethany, Faith, Savannah, Courtney, and the other Cheyenne [ Tash] ride, and I have always hoped that someday I will be able to ride the way they do.”

“They have been great role models for me and they have never minded me following them around and asking questions. Everyone at LRC has always made me feel special and welcome, and I hope to pass that along to other young riders. I think that Lincoln is a wonderful place to call home, and I would be so proud to represent the Lincoln Rodeo, and help introduce more people to rodeo, so they can experience all the wonderful friends, confidence, joy, and memories that rodeo has brought to my life.”
