Prairie Grove, Farmington Plan Fireworks Shows

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — Both shows will go off at the same time but folks in western Washington County have two options Saturday to enjoy fireworks in celebration of the Fourth of July.

The cities of Farmington and Prairie Grove will sponsor fireworks shows Saturday night (July 5).

Last year, the city of Prairie Grove celebrated its 125th birthday and the party was so successful that Mayor Sonny Hudson decided to do it again this year.

“After we had our birthday celebration for Prairie Grove last year, we had several people come up to us and tell us how much they enjoyed it and that we should make it an annual event,” Hudson said. “This is our first attempt to have it as an annual event. We’re trying to follow through with that.”

Celebrate Prairie Grove will start at 7 p.m. at Prairie Grove Aquatic Center with free admission to swim, free hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks, door prizes and a fireworks

show at dark. Families are invited to swim, enjoy food and stay for the fireworks show. The event is supported by several businesses in the community. These include Arvest Bank, Bank of Fayetteville, Harps, PG Telco, Walmart Express, Subway, Ozarks Electric and Uncle Sam’s Fireworks.

In Farmington, the fireworks will go off at dusk, around 9 p.m., at the Farm- ington High football field.

The public is invited to come to Freedom Fest, bring chairs and blankets and enjoy the fireworks show and celebrate Independence Day.

In Prairie Grove, residents can discharge fireworks from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4 only. Stick rockets are not allowed at any time in the city limits.

Farmington allows residents to shoot off fireworks 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., July 3 and 5 and 10 a.m. to midnight, July 4.
