Mayor, City Honored For Excellence
LITTLE ROCK — The mayor of Prairie Grove and the city of Prairie Grove received honors of excellence at the Arkansas Municipal League’s 80th Convention, held June 18-20 in Little Rock.
Mayor Sonny Hudson was presented with the Marvin L. Vinson Commitment to Excellence Award. The award is presented to municipal officials who have served with distinction and dedication to their cities and on the League’s boards, councils or committees for 12 years.
The award is named in honor of Vinson, who served as Clarksville mayor from 1983 until his death in 2001 and was League president in 1992-1993. Barbara Blackard, Clarksville city clerk/treasurer, presented the award on behalf of the family of the late Vinson.
The program for the Vinson award said this about city officials who are honored with the Commitment to Excellence Award: “Just as Mayor Vinson reflected many years of dedicated public service in many roles with cities and the Municipal League, these recipients have served their municipalities and the League with commitment and dedication. We are proud to honor each of them for their 12 years of service with the Marvin Vinson Commitment to Excellence Award.”
Hudson has served on the League’s First Class Cities Advisory Council and Public Safety Advisory Council. Presently, he serves on the Executive Committee. He has been mayor since 2001 and was a member of the Prairie Grove City Council for 13 years.
The League honored the city of Prairie Grove with the Four Star Municipality Award, presented annually to municipalities that have demonstrated excellence in loss control in employee safety, wellness, vehicle safety and prevention of legal liability.
