Claude ‘Hank’ Sargent

Claude “Hank” Sargent, 86, of Prairie Grove, went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2014, at the Prairie Grove Health and Rehab. He was born Jan. 13, 1928, in Prairie Grove, the son of Charles W. and Iva M. Crawley Sargent.

Hank was a member of the New Sulphur Freewill Baptist Church of Prairie Grove where he previously served as a deacon for 30 years. He loved to ride his horses and mules and enjoyed fishing and traveling with LaVerne and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Clyde, Clinton and Clarence; six sisters, Alma Caviness, Belle Prater, Louise Prater, Lorraine Skelton, Maudeline McKee and Dolly Kidd.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years LaVerne Jetton Sargent; one son, Jerry and wife Joan of Prairie Grove; two grandsons Justin and Bradley; five great-grandchild­ren, Brett, Carriann, Sara Kate, Emily and Brooks; two stepgrandd­aughters, Tammy Vaughn and Paula Harmond and five stepgreat-grandchild­ren, Mason, Gracie, Austin, Jordon, and Karsyn; one brother, Chester and wife Betty of Prairie Grove; one sister, Bonnie Anderson and husband Sam of Jacksonvil­le, Ark., and many special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the New Sulphur Freewill Baptist Church near Prairie Grove with Randy Burris and Danny O’Neal officiatin­g. Burial was in the Fall Creek Cemetery in Strickler, Ark.

Joan Johnson Beasley

FARMINGTON — Joan Johnson Beasley, age 86, of Farmington passed away June 24, 2014, in Fayettevil­le. Joan was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Fayettevil­le, Ark., to Charles and Bobbie Johnson.

Joan grew up on the east end of Lafayette Street in Fayettevil­le, always had a horse and was one of the few girls in town to have her own car. She graduated from Fayettevil­le High School in 1945.

Joan was an accomplish­ed pianist and attended the University of Arkansas Music School. Her parents owned a paint and wallpaper store on Block Street near the Blue Mill Restaurant and later ran the Fountain Motel on North College.

She and her husband loved training and showing Tennessee Walking horses. They lived together on five acres in Farmington with a host of animals from the late ’60s until her death.

They were very active in local horse clubs and showed horses throughout the region. Later, Joan was sought after as a horse show organist. She called Central United Methodist Church in Fayettevil­le home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Joseph Noble Beasley DVM in May 2009.

She is survived by her son, Michael Beasley of Arcata, Calif.

Graveside services were held June 28, 2014, at Farmington Cemetery, Farmington, Ark., under the direction of Moore’s Chapel Funeral Home.

Barry Thompson

LINCOLN — Barry Hurst Thompson, 69, Lincoln, died June 23, 2014, at Washington Regional Medical Center, Fayettevil­le. He was born Nov. 24, 1945, in Canada.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a truck driver for many years.

Survivors: many loving relatives and friends.
