Cards Recognized With Baseball Honors
FARMINGTON — Two Cardinals, Keaton Austin and Adam Ness, received All-State distinction for their exploits during the 2014 baseball season.
Austin was named All-Conference and All-State as a pitcher for the 2014 Farmington baseball team. Austin compiled a 7-2 record with one save. In 49.2 innings pitched his ERA was a stingy 2.255 allowing 29 runs on 51 hits against 73 strikeouts with 4 batters hit by a pitch.
Ness led the team in hitting with a .492 average with 10 home runs, 42 RBIs and nine triples. Ness went 3-2 on the mound with a 2.10 ERA.
Cade Black, Hayden Sutton, Tyler Gregg and Chase Norwood were four more Cardinals listed on the 4A-1 All-league team with two others, Jacob Thompson and Flint Oxford, earning All-Conference honorable mention.
Black played third base batting .417 with 15 RBIs and 30 hits on the season in helping the Cardinals advance to the Class 4A state tournament.
Farmington first baseman Sutton hit .317 with an on-base percentage of .512 and a slugging average of .467. Sutton blasted 22 RBIs on 12 singles, 6 doubles and a home run.
Farmington freshman Gregg batted .400 with 30 hits, 12 doubles, 20 RBIs and 2 home runs. As a pitcher Gregg was 3-1 with a 1.20 ERA. He had 30 strikeouts with only five walks.
Norwood batted .320 with an on-base percentage of .477 and a slugging average of .620 with 16 RBIs, 7 singles, 5 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs. He scored 13 runs for the Cardinals.
Farmington’s Thompson had 7 RBIs on 16 hits with an on-base percentage of .379.
Farmington junior Oxford played catcher and designated hitter batting .360 with 11 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .448.
