Fields Are Picture Of Plenty
This year wasn’t a typical Fourth of July weather-wise, but the cooler weather made celebrations more enjoyable.
A regular cook- out at Johnny and Anna Cheatham’s was great, including fresh grilled corn on the cob. Later, the youngsters’ fun with fireworks added to those we could see from a distance as far away as Springdale and Fayetteville. Many enjoyed the fun from the 3rd on through the weekend, as I heard many “thumps” each evening though I didn’t look for the lights displayed.
Tuesday was a quieter time than usual at the Lincoln Senior Center. Our band leaders, George and Lorene Schooler, were unable to attend, so no band. We missed them but were more concerned that they were not well. Also, the Elkins seniors, who were expected to visit the Lincoln seniors, canceled their visit. It was only the second day in their new building and they wanted to stay and enjoy it — probably really celebrating and who could blame them.
I enjoyed a visit by phone with our cousin Wanda Brakebill, who lives in the Los Angeles, Calif., area. Their news weather-wise is very serious — still no rain. If only we could share a little with them.
Our countryside is again — a picture of plenty, as field after field is full of huge bales of hay. Farmers have been busy during sunny days, as they really have “made hay while the sun shined” — a second cutting and time for another one or two. Let us be thankful.
Happy birthday to Helen Bailey, Clark Bailey, Mason Roy, Danny Butler, Joyce Snodgrass, Effie Fulnechek, Garret Bush, Richard Bentley.
Happy anniversary to Shadoe and Caitlyn Venatta.
Happy years, all.
