Lincoln Mayoral Candidate Announced

Spindler Wants To Help Clean Up Lincoln

- By Pat Harris

LINCOLN — Doris Spindler, owner of Burger Land restaurant, announced Friday she is a candidate for mayor.

Spindler said she had been thinking and talking about running for the top city position for a yea. She made a decision to run and has filled out the paperwork, collected the 30 needed signatures and plans to file July 25, when filing opens for city candidates.

Her decision was also based on hearing from people who are customers at her restaurant.

“I talk to a lot of people and a lot of them tell me they are ready for a change,” Spindler said.

“I want to help clean up the city,” Spindler said. “Highway 62 looks exactly the same as it did years ago.”

Spindler is part of the Adopt-A-Highway plan and has adopted the area in front of her business, located on U.S. 62.

“I would like to see it cleaned up here and grown, get businesses in here, get jobs in here,” Spindler said.

Spindler believes more businesses coming to Lincoln offering more jobs would help lift people who live in the city out of poverty.

“I think the poverty rate is about 75 percent,” Spindler said, adding, “that’s too high.”

Spindler believes offering tax incentives would help bring businesses to Lincoln.

“We’ve got the nice new high school but I see kids walking along the highway to that school and it’s scary,” Spindler said. “We need sidewalks for them so they don’t walk to school in the highway.”

As a member of the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, Spindler is helping work on ideas to beautify Pridemore Drive, which is U.S. 62.

“I’ve been talking to a master gardener from the University of Arkansas to help us get ideas,” she said.

Spindler said she has done a lot to help Lincoln citizens, referring to the coats she collects to give to children in winter and the Thanksgiving meals she gives away free to the community. For this community service she received the 2014 Chamber of Commerce’s annual Bud Cox award.

“I just want to do more to help the people,” Spindler said.

Spindler, a former Prairie Grove resident, moved to Lincoln four years ago.
