Cardinal Tennis Dominates

FARMINGTON — In a threeway tennis meet on August 21, Farmington ( 5A West) dominated at home against U.S. 62 rival Prairie Grove (4A-1) and Union Christian (2A-4).

“Our tennis team had a great showing tonight. Against Prairie Grove we won 8 matches and lost 1. Against Union Christian we won 5 matches and lost 3,” said Farmington coach Matt Mahan.

Parker Galligan, Prairie Grove, defeated Jeffrey Kutter, Farmington, 6- 4; but the Tigers didn’t win again. Also in boys singles, Coleman Warren won his match, 6-1, and Will Warren won, 6-4.

Jeremy Mueller/ Will Warren won their doubles match, 6- 4, and Caleb Lipford and Austin Raabe won their match 6-3.

In girls singles, Jenifer Palmer won 6-2 and Patti Bruno won in a tiebreaker 7-6 in a hard-fought battle with Prairie Grove’s Aryanna Mitchell. Farmington’s Whitney Greenlee won 6-1. In girls doubles, Kaylee Kyger/Sam Troilo won 6-1.

Farmington’s Teah Flynn/ Jeremy Mueller won a best on best doubles match, 7-5.

Against Union Christian in boys singles, Kutter won 6-4 over Spencer in a reversal from 2013 when he lost to the same opponent, 6-8. Maxwell lost 2-6.

In boys doubles action, Lipford/Coleman Warren won, 6- 3; and Peyton Maxwell/Coleman Warren lost, 1-6.

For the girls, Teah Flynn won, 6-4, against a returning state champion in 2A; and Palmer lost, 1- 6. In girls doubles, Whitney Greenlee/Patti Bruno won, 7-5; and Sam Troilo/Kaylee Kyger won against a boys team, 6-1.

On August 19, Farmington competed against Haas Hall. In girls singles Teah Flynn won, 8-2; and Sam Troilo won, 6- 3. In girls doubles, Jenifer Palmer/ Kaylee Kyger won, 8- 4; and Patti Bruno/ Whitney Greenlee won, 6-3. In boys singles, Jeffrey Kutter lost, 2- 8; and Peyton Maxwell lost, 1- 6. In boys doubles, Jeremy Mueller/ Wi l l Warren lost, 6-8; and Caleb Lipford/Coleman Warren lost, 1-6.

“Haas Hall is a very good tennis team and I thought we did a good job against some solid competitio­n,” Mahan said.
