Lincoln Students Meet Literacy Achievemen­t

LINCOLN — Seventy parents, students and teachers gathered at the Lincoln Elementary School cafeteria on Oct. 14 for a monthly school board meeting and 2014-15 annual Report to the Public.

The theme for the report was “Proud to be a Wolf.” A video clip was played with students across the district saying why they were proud to be a Wolf.

Enrollment in the district is 1,196. Spears said there should not be much change in the numbers.

The district covers 146 square miles, according to the report. A budget summary has the district ending the school year at $2.8 million. The district began the school year with $2.4 million. Students receiving free and reduced lunches total 71-percent.

Melody Sebastian, principal of Lincoln Elementary, Michele Price, principal of Lincoln Middle School and Courtney Jones, principal of the New Tech High School reported on their schools.

Sebastian reported Elementary students are participat­ing in Leadership Teams, Service Learning projects, Grandparen­ts Day, summer school and after school programs.

Lincoln Elementary is achieving in literacy but needs improvemen­t in math, which Sebastian said teachers are working on.

Price reported Middle School students are involved in the Lincoln Youth Adventure Club and participat­ed in two events at the Lincoln Lake Festival, climbing and hiking. They have earned $500 in Vilonia/Mayflower tornado relief and $1,000 for a Diabetes Walk. Students participat­e in Leadership Teams, have family nights and dances. Price said Lincoln Middle School is achieving in literacy and math on the Benchmark tests.

Lincoln New Tech High School is achieving in literacy and math, according to Jones, with the graduation rate at 92.68-percent.

The school is National Board Certified and has FFA and Fair recognitio­n.
