Christmas Parade Set For Dec. 6

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — “Let’s Go Caroling” is the theme for the 2014 Farmington Kiwanis Christmas parade and one change this year will be the location of the judges’ table.

The parade will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. Rain date is Dec. 13. Entries are encouraged to use a favorite Christmas carol in decorating their float or vehicle.

The judges’ table will be moved from Main Street to along the sidewalk in front of Farmington Sports Complex on Southwinds Drive. The city has agreed to turn on the ballpark lights so spectators will be able to see floats and other parade entries along this part of the parade route. The judging area was moved at the request of Farmington police to help with the flow of the parade along Main Street.

The parade will begin as usual at 7 p. m., at Folsom Elementary School. It will follow the same route as years’ past. It starts at Folsom, travels along Main Street and then turns onto Southwinds Drive before ending at Farmington United Methodist Church for hot chocolate and cookies and the announcement of float winners.

Festivities start with a chili supper sponsored by Farmington High FFA at 5 p.m. at Folsom. Cost for the dinner is $5 per person. Along with the chili supper, Farmington Kiwanis will sponsor a scholarship fundraiser silent auction and community groups will present Christmas music.

Santa Claus will arrive at 5 p. m. at Folsom for children to visit with, along with opportunities for photos.

The Kiwanis Club is still taking applications for parade entries. To request an entry form, contact Sandra Sawyer at sssawyer@uark.edu or call 479-530-7974. Groups are asked to submit entry forms to help with parade line-up. There is no fee to participate in the parade.
