Santa To Visit Lincoln At Annual Event

- By Pat Harris

LINCOLN — Santa Claus will be making the rounds soon to meet with children and hear their Christmas lists. He will be making an appearance in Lincoln on Dec. 13 at the Christmas On the Square event.

“I’ve been told Santa has been invited and accepted, and I’m glad to know that he will make an appearance,” said Mayor Rob Hulse.

Bryan Snyder, president of the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, agreed Santa’s visit was important as are all the volunteers who make the event possible.

“We organize the goodies bags and Santa visit,” Snyder said. “Area churches and businesses will be providing popcorn and refreshments.”

Hulse said the city is providing Party Time ponies as it has for the past few years.

“We’re in the process of putting on the final touches now,” Hulse said. “We’ve got 750 chicken halves donated by Tyson Foods and we’ll have all the fixings. And we’ll have hot dogs for the kids who don’t want the chicken meal.”

“I think we’ll have a great event and a great turnout regardless of the weather,” Snyder said. “It’s an event everybody looks forward to and enjoys.”

“The city does a lot and we appreciate their help,” Snyder said. “The Chamber appreci- ates all the volunteers and looks forward to this every year.”

Hulse said the city is “ready to go” and plans, as does the Chamber, on a “great” weekend.

Christmas On the Square usually brings 700-800 people to the downtown square for the free meal.

All residents of Lincoln are invited to the event which will start at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. at the Community Center surrounding lawn. Santa will visit with children at the gazebo.
