Reminiscing Has Strong Benefits

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist DIANNA PAYNE IS LIBRARY DIRECTOR AT LINCOLN PUBLIC LIBRARY.

Correcting a mistake: The Sugar Hill Church dinner is this Sunday, Dec. 7, not the 14th as reported. Please forgive me for this, one of my many mistakes.

In addition to learning more about Lincoln’s history, the Remember and Reminisce meetings on Tuesday evenings in the library have other valuable purposes, as the following report of recent studies shows — “Reminiscing has positive physical effects, reducing blood pressure, stress and depression. Perhaps one of its strongest benefits is how activity sharing stories and memories strengthens current brain and memory function, giving a powerful tool in the fight against memory loss.” Also it is lots of fun, and better than popping pills.

December already? Yes, and it is Calendar Awareness month; National Tie, Stress-Free, Human Rights, Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention month. We have Dec. 7 to remember the sacrifices at Pearl Harbor, and Dec. 25, our Savior’s celebrated birthday. December’s birthstone is turquoise, flower is narcissus.

There was a full house at the Lincoln Senior Center recently, when members of Springdale Center and Prairie Grove Center visited. The three groups joined in the Kitchen Band’s singing, playing, riding the little red wagon, chicken dance, and literally parading during the music. After lunch, beanbag baseball was enjoyed — a full fun day. Welcome back, neighbors, anytime.

Happy Birthday to Glenn Braly, Oleta Danforth, James Myers, Jesse King, Lillian Nash, Rosalee Leach, Dana Harrell, Henson Tittle, Nancy Dawn Myers, Joyce Miller, Kim Lee, Shirley England, Sara Bradley, Reba Holden, Joey Napier and Angelina Myers.

Happy anniversary to Leon and Jeanine Tucker. Happy years, all. Remember the Sugar Hill Church dinner this Sunday, also recycling Monday, Dec. 8, and the Lincoln Public Library history meeting Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.
