Couple Celebrates 60 Years
It was another full, special day at Sugar Hill Church, Sunday. Though pianist Chris Rogers couldn’t attend, and was missed, Paula Cox and visitor Sharon Albright furnished music for the morning service.
Following the congregation singing, Bud and Paula Cox presented their Christmas presentation, with Paula singing her original song. “Tell me the Story,” and Bud narrating the story of Christ’s birth while J. D. Roberts placed appropriate figures on the flannel board. This is always inspiring and well received and appreciated.
Then the surprise. J.C. and Christeen Albright were asked to sit in two chairs facing the congregation, then their son Doug and his wife Sharon read the “history” of J.C and Christeen’s lives, celebrating their 60 years of marriage.
Story: A couple, married for 70 years, had no secrets except one: The women kept in her closet a box that she forbade her husband from ever opening. But when she was on her death bed, with her blessing, he opened the box and found a crocheted doll and $95,000 in cash.
“My mother said her secret to a happy marriage was never argue,” she explained. “Instead, I should keep quiet and crochet a doll.”
Her husband was touched. Only one doll was in the box. Had she been angry with him only once in 70 years? “But what about all this money? ”he asked.
“Oh,” she said, “that’s the money I made from selling the dolls.”
