Farmington Holds First Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — An inaugural Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast to recognize the city of Farmington and city workers will be held at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 19, at Farmington United Methodist Church on Southwinds Drive.

The community is invited to the breakfast and plans are to have one annually and rotate the location to different churches each year. Breakfast will be served and will include pastries and other menu items.

Troy Conrad, FUMC pastor, said church member Diane Bryant came up with the idea and pastors in the community have come together in support of it. The program should last about 45 minutes to an hour, Conrad said.

The program for the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will include pastors reciting scripture and then each sharing a few minutes about a

ministry their church sponsors for the community.

“So we can all see how we do missions in our local community,” Conrad said, adding that all scripture and prayers will be “in honor of the city and city workers.”

The program includes pastors from local churches: Conrad, Patrick Garcia with First Church of the Nazarene, Shannon O’Dell with Brand New Church, Mike Raine with Farmington Church of Christ, Preston Beeks with Farmington Baptist and a representative with First Baptist Church.

Lance Arguello with Abundant Life Church will give a devotion and Darrell Barker with Gideon’s International will give a scripture reading.

Mayor Ernie Penn will give an address on the state of the city.

Bryant, who also is a member of the Farmington City Council, said other towns have similar events and she thought it would be good to have one in Farmington.

“I think it’s a good idea to talk about what our churches are doing and to come together as a city,” Bryant said, noting, “We all are on a team furthering the growth of Farmington in a good way.”

Bryant said all local churches were contacted and invited to participate in the community breakfast.

Penn said he believes the breakfast will provide a time for everyone to come together and pray for the community.
