FARMINGTON — The Lady Cardinals co-hosted the Farmington/Fayetteville softball tournament and placed third last weekend after losing 8-4 to Conway on Saturday.

Farmington played four games on Saturday, losing 4-3 to Conway in the quarterfinal, then battling back through the loser-out bracket. The Lady Cardinals defeated Pottsville 7-4 on Saturday, then beat co-host Fayetteville, 13-1, to reach the consolation game before being eliminated by the Wampus Cats.

On Friday Farmington pulled off a resilient come-from-behind, 7-4, win over Pottsville. The Apaches went ahead 2-0 and loaded the bases. Bethany Doty threw out a runner at home for the second out and Hannah Marie Savage came up to bat for Pottsville. She made contact with a 1-2 pitch and two runs crossed the plate but the second was disallowed when Haley Stanton came off the bag and was tagged out at second base.

“The one [Farmington] run early was good, the one [Pottsville] run not counting at home was huge in the second,” said Farmington coach Randy Osnes. “We load the bases and Bethany McKnight does a good job of batting, then we got Bethany Doty up, and it’s a 2-run bomb.”

Doty homered as did Brooke Smith twice in the tournament and Brooke Larkin had eight consecutive hits. In one inning Farmington reliever Lauren Thomas threw 9 strikes on 11 pitches retiring Conway in order.
