LINCOLN RIDING CLUB INVITES RODEO FANS TO 62ND ANNUAL RODEO
LINCOLN — Properly managed rodeo is a family-friendly event and the Lincoln Riding Club is making every effort to extend a warm welcome to all ages.
Lincoln Riding Club is hosting the 62nd annual Lincoln Rodeo this week. Those looking for photo opportunities can catch young cowboys all duded up and adorable young cowgirls displaying their finest hats, boots, spurs and smiles during the 2015 Little Mister and Little Miss contest on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Among the prizes are buckles and stick horses.
Following the contest, kids and adults alike can cash in on an opportunity to further hone their social skills by attending a free street dance at the Lincoln Square from 8 to 11 p. m. with Howard Lester and the Boston Mountain Playboys performing live music. Concessions are available to curb the appetite of youngsters. Many old-timers get out onto the street to enjoy a good dance and everywhere one looks folks can be seen generally having a good time.
On Thursday, rodeo competition erupts in the Lincoln Riding Club arena with stock provided by Blisard Rodeo Company, of Oklahoma. The rodeo is sanctioned by American Cowboys Rodeo Association and the International Professional Rodeo Association with money earned during the event counting in the standings for both associations. Events include: steer wrestling, bull riding, saddle bronc, team roping, bareback riding, barrel racing, calf roping and break-away roping.
Rodeo competitive events for junior cowboys and cowgirls are junior barrels, 14 and under and peewee barrels, 8 and under. Youngsters can also participate in a calf scramble and nightly mutton busting. The newlycrowned Little Mister and Little Miss will lead each nightly grand stick- horse entry beginning at 7:30 p.m. followed by the rodeo performance at 8 p.m. Thursday is family night at the Lincoln Rodeo with kids ages 6-10 admitted for $2.
The stick horse grand entry kicks off the rodeo again on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Saturday also has a parade starting at the Lincoln Riding Club Arena just west of town on U.S. 62 with paraders lining up at 4 p. m. The parade begins at 4: 30 p. m. traveling into town and around the town square, which is two blocks north of U.S. 62 downtown and can be reached by turning onto Main Street.
People who watched the Liberty Bowl held at Memphis, Tenn., in January might even have seen a familiar face. Taylor Cunningham, 2012- 13 Lincoln Club junior queen, has acquired a vast amount of experience making public appearances during her rodeo career. Cunningham also won Lincoln High School football Homecoming crown on Oct. 10. which, along with her rodeo expertise, led to her selection.
