Character Matters For Princess

- By Mark Humphrey ENTERPRISE-LEADER

PRAIRIE GROVE — Maintaining integrity of character is high on the agenda for 10-year-old 2014 Lincoln Riding Club princess Tabor Lewis.

Tabor hopes rodeo fans will look beyond the glitz and glamour she sports when decked out in her rodeo attire while performing in the arena. There are many other aspects to the personality of this fourth grader at Lincoln Middle School. Tabor has volunteered for numerous years at Life Ministries in Prairie Grove, helping the organization fulfill a mission of providing food to those who otherwise might skip meals or go hungry and assist those in need of clothing, household items or helping hand in keeping their utility bills up to date. Tabor has a special place in her heart for special needs rodeo kids.

Tabor is the daughter of Brittany and Ray Huffaker, the late Lewis Workman, and Stewart and Ashley Lewis. She has been riding horses since age 5 and been part of the Lincoln Riding Club for six years. Tabor competes in a variety of rodeo events, including: barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, and break- away roping. When Lincoln Riding Club members formed a drill team, Arkansas Fillies, designed to show- case the riding skills and heart for rodeo among area junior cowgirls (ages 5-17) Tabor was interested and joined.

Tabor loves the sport of rodeo and queening. The LRC 2014 Princess was not her first title. Some of her previous titles include f irst runner- up at Mid South Rodeo in 2012, as well as winning the 2013 Scott County Princess crown. Being the 2014 LRC Rodeo Princess has been a wonderful experience for Tabor and has helped her to develop her public speaking skills. She feels these are valuable skills that will help her to succeed the rest of her life. Being rodeo royalty has made Tabor realize that “all the blingy, glitzy clothes, and make-up” is great and fun, but underneath all the glamour the most important thing is her character. Tabor loves being a role model to other girls.

Tabor has enjoyed her year representing for the Lincoln Riding Club. She represented LRC at Cowboys Winter Rodeo Association, Ozark Junior Rodeo Association, Westville IPRA Rodeo, Siloam Springs Rodeo and more. Tabor sends a big to thank you to LRC sponsors because as she sees things, without them LRC couldn’t have a successful royalty contest each year. She also wishes all contestants good luck during this year’s competition.
