Filing For School Board Positions To Begin

- By Lynn Kutter

The 2015 school board election season has begun and those interested in running for open positions can circulate petitions to gather required signatures.

Lincoln and Prairie Grove both have two open positions on the ballot and Farmington has one open seat.

In Prairie Grove, Position 2, currently held by William Dick, and Position 5, held by Beth Everett, will be open on the ballot.

Everett on Friday said she does not plan to run for re-election. She has served 10 years on Prairie Grove School Board.

“I think it’s a good time for someone to run, step in and give it a try,” said Everett.

Dick is serving his 11th year and said he plans to run for re-election to a five-year term.

Lincoln’s open positions on the election ballot will be Zone 2, currently held by board President Jim Ayers, and Zone 3, held by Nick Brewer. School Superintendent Mary Ann Spears said Ayers has announced he is not running for re-election because of travel demands with his job.

Zone 3 will be on the ballot because Brewer was appointed to fill a vacancy Sept. 30, 2014. Brewer has said he plans to run for the seat, Spears said.

In Farmington, Position 3 on the School Board will be on the ballot. Tony Parsley, who currently holds that position, said he plans to run for a second five-year term.

Those interested in running for school board can pick up packets at the Washington County Clerk’s office or their school administra- tion office. Candidates must be qualified voters and live in the school district or the school board zone for which they are running.

Candidates must file petitions with at least 20 signatures from registered voters within the school district they represent or within the zone they represent. Other forms required include an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Political Practices Pledge.

Candidates may file their petitions at the county clerk’s office in Fayetteville from June 30 through noon July 7. Elections will be held Sept. 15.
