Future Of Rodeo

- By Mark Humphrey

LINCOLN —The future of rodeo is in good hands, at least on a local level, if the 2015 Lincoln Rodeo is a good indication.

Junior Rodeo Clowns

Role models tend to make a big impression in a young cowboy’s life, especially at an early age and brothers, Tatum, 6, and Tripp, 3, Perkins, have learned from the best. Working in tandem the boys served as junior rodeo clowns during mutton busting at the Lincoln Rodeo last week. The boys are grandsons of legendary rodeo clown, Woody Porter; and sons of Charlie and Christy Perkins, of Farmington. Tatum worked as the barrelman and Tripp as sheep wrangler. Both had their faces painted and both wore appropriate rodeo clown garb.

Stickhorse Grand Entry

They also participated in the stickhorse grand entry led by their buddy, Colton Workman, 4, of Lincoln, with his newly-won 2015 Lincoln Riding Club Little Mister title; and 2015 Lincoln Riding Club Little Miss Brihnlee Hunt, 7-year-old daughter of Jeremy and Morgan Hunt, of Lincoln. Brihnlee is in Mrs. Jones’ second grade class at Lincoln Elementary School, has a horse named Buddy and she likes to “race them barrels” as she puts it, at OJRA events and LRC playdays. Brihnlee’s favorite color is yellow “because it’s pretty.” She likes barrel racing because “it’s fun and you go fast,” and wants to be a teacher like her mommy when she grows up. Her favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate.

Princess Winner

Kalleigh Jo Shreve, 8, daughter of Bobby and Maegan Shreve, of Farmington, won the 2015 Lincoln Riding Club princess crown. She attends Bob Folsom Elementary and hopes to one day become a judge. Kalleigh Jo received the Principal’s Act of Kindness Award and was Student of the Month at her school. Her favorite subject in school is Art. Her activities include: playing softball on the CoolHeat 8 & under team as well as being a member of Cove Creek Clever Clovers 4H group. Kalleigh Jo also shows pigs. Kalleigh Jo is looking forward to representing Lincoln Riding Club and plans to stay involved throughout the year at rodeos and other events. She is proud to carry the LRC flag and wants to continue friendships, make new friends and acquaintances that she will keep for life.
