Public Workshop Set For Creekside Park Plan

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — Local residents will have a chance to comment on a draft master plan for Creekside Park in Farmington during a drop-in public workshop from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 3 at City Hall.

Erin Rushing, project manager with Alta Planning and Design of Bentonville, said a “full-blown” master plan will be available for people to view at the public workshop and he hopes citizens will come out to look at it, ask questions or make suggestions.

Rushing said the conceptual plan includes an area set aside for disc golf, a biking/ hiking trail along the creek through the middle of the park, more playgrounds, additional parking, a farmers’ market area and a place for an amphitheater or stage. These are amenities listed by people who attended a public workshop in June.

The firm may make changes to the plan based on comments given at the public hearing. A final master plan then will go to the Farmington City Council at its Aug. 10 meeting.

Creekside Park gained an additional 32 acres in December 2014, when the P. R. Green Family Trust donated land adjacent to the existing park on both sides of Broyles Avenue. In all, the trust has donated 61.54 acres of park land to the city.

Farmington off icials wanted assistance in deciding how best to use available land in the park and advertised for companies to submit proposals on designing a master plan. Five companies submitted proposals and a city committee unanimously voted to recommend Alta for the project. The City Council voted May 10 to contract with Alta for an amount not to exceed $30,000.
