Prairie Grove Flies Past Lincoln
PRAIRIE GROVE —A total of 345 yards rushing is probably considered a good performance for a Prairie Grove offense that bases its attack around a run-first, “Wing-T” offense.
The Tigers, however, took to the airways Friday night and wound up with almost 300 yards passing as they completed an unbeaten run through 4A-1 Conference play with a convincing 62-20 victory over Lincoln.
“Both offenses were really working early on; there was no defense,” Prairie Grove coach Danny Abshier said. “Luckily our defense was able to adjust and we figured it out in the second half.”
The Tigers wasted no time in putting points on the board as senior quarterback Sam Dodd hooked up with junior wide receiver Isaac Disney on a 48-yard touchdown pass just 46 seconds into the game.
The Wolves responded on their first series, though, as they marched 57 yards down the field against the Tiger defense. Lincoln quarterback Harrison Swayne would connect with three different receivers on the drive, tying the game at 7 with 7:06 remaining in the first quarter.
Each team would score once more before the conclusion of the first period, the only difference being a missed extra-point by the Tigers, making the score 14-13. Prairie Grove (9-1, 7-0) then turned the game into a rout as it outscored Lincoln 49-6 over the remainder of the game.
Disney racked up 135 yards
receiving, and four other Tigers would catch at least one pass as well.
“That’s a heck of a football team; they’re going to go really far this year,” first-year Lincoln coach Don Harrison said. “I was glad our kids got to see that they can play with these guys. While we are behind them as a program … we’re getting there.”
Wolves’ freshman running back Caleb Lloyd did all he could, accumulating a hardearned 51 yards on 19 carries. He would also add one catch for five yards. The Tigers’ ability to move the ball up and down the field was simply too much for Lincoln to match.
Prairie Grove will host Jonesboro Westside in a first- round playoff game this Friday at Tiger Stadium, while Lincoln (4-6, 3-4) travels to Dardanelle for its firstround game.
