Wolves Drop 4A-1 Opener

LINCOLN — Kilby Roberts drove in five runs to help the Lions cruise to a victory in the 4A-1 opener for both teams on March 29. It was the sixth straight win for Gravette after losing its first three games of the season.

Roberts hit a two- run single in the first and a three-run double during a six- run, second inning to chase Lincoln starter Garrett Blankenshi­p off the mound.

Luke Summerford and Jace Russ each had two hits for the Lions.

Tristan Young and Caleb Lloyd led the Wolves with two hits apiece. Gravette right-hander Trey Nunnally (3-1) allowed one run on four hits through four innings to pick up the win.

Lincoln (1-12, 0-2) lost its other two games last week, falling 19-3 against Pea Ridge on Thursday and 4-3 against Elkins on Friday.

Against Pea Ridge, Lloyd went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a run scored while Ryan Flickinger had a two-run double to pace the Wolves’ offense.

It took nine innings for Elkins to defeat the Wolves. They took a 3-2 lead with a three-run fifth inning before the Elks evened the scored with a run in the sixth.

Toby Rose was 2 for 5 with a run scored. Dalton Lee hit a two-run double and Blankenshi­p hit an RBI single and scored a run in the fifth.

Blankenshi­p was solid in relief, allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out five while pitching the final four innings.
