Gravette Rallies To Beat PG Softball 8-4

- By Mike Capshaw

GRAVETTE — The Lady Lions scored seven runs in the final two innings to upend Prairie Grove 8-4 on March 31.

“We didn’t play poorly; [the Lady Lions] just came back and won, so credit them for that,” said Prairie Grove coach Dustin Beck. “It’s frustrating. They’re frustrated, but it’s a good kind of frustration. They’re mad at themselves, but it’s a good kind of mad. I’m pleased with that kind of mad, if you know what I mean.”

Prairie Grove scored in each of the first three innings. Brooke Ketzler and Katharine McConnell each drove in a run. Kylie Scott, Savannah Stearman, Anna Kidd and Ali Edgar each singled and scored a run.

“We’ve really had a lot of players stepping up offensively,” Beck said. “I told them after the game that we’ve been doing a lot of good stuff. We’ve been getting timely hits when we needed them. Defensively, we’ve played well and we’ve been running the bases pretty well, it just didn’t hold together and came apart at the wrong time tonight.”

Ketzler was tagged with the loss despite not giving up any earned runs in 2/3 of an inning. She threw just 10 pitches, including eight strikes, but allowed three hits.

After posting a 3-1 record last week, the Lady Tigers are 11-7 overall and 1-1 in 4A-1 play. They picked up the conference win by blowing out Huntsville 11-0 on March 29. They won twice at Harrison on April 1, beating Harrison 11-6 and Deer 15-0.

Against Harrison, Prairie Grove exploded for 10 hits and scored in all four innings, including putting up six runs in the third.

Ketzler was 3 for 3 with an RBI while Stearman was 2 for 3 with two doubles and 2 RBIs.

Scott was 2 for 3 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs.

Maddie Stearman and Kidd each were 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI while Emily Kruse hit a two-run double in the lopsided win.

Ketzler picked up the shutout victory by allowing two hits and striking out three in five innings. She threw 39 strikes on just 58 pitches.
