“Ben’s not going to overpower people but he knows how to pitch,” Harper said. “He’s going to hit spots and throw his slider for strikes. He did that tonight and got a lot of ground balls, a lot of fly balls.

In both games combined, Ryan Larkin also was “outstanding,” Harper said, by going 7 for 8 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs while Putnam was 5 for 9 with 4 runs and 4 RBIs.

Farmington 15, Ozark 5

Farmington exploded for 18 hits in a 15-5 rout against Ozark in six innings on April 14. It extended the Cards’ winning streak to 10 games heading into Tuesday’s doubleheader against Vilonia at home.

Gregg had a huge day, going 4 for 5 with three home runs and 7 RBIs.

Gregg homered in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

Nick Huff and Price had four hits apiece as well. Huff had a double and Price had a double and a triple among their hits. Trenton McChristian was 2 for 3 with two doubles and three runs. Larkin was 1 for 2 with a double, three walks and three runs. Will Danenhauer was 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs.

On the mound, starter Drake Vinyard allowed two runs and four hits and striking out one in two innings. Cade Fenton allowed one earned run on four hits and struck out five in three innings.

Farmington 11, Elkins 1

Gregg smashed a two-run homer and Blake Madewell drove in two runs on two hits to pace the Cardinals’ offense.

Putnam, McChristian, Tripp Cheney and Caleb Petrie each drove in a run as well. Price tripled and scored two runs.

Huff scored two runs and had two stolen bases as did Stephen Piha and Cameron Bracy as courtesy runners.

Cheney pitched three scoreless innings while allowing one hit to record the win.
