Prairie Grove Tigers Grab Conference Wins

Prairie Grove picked up a pair of 4A-1 conference victories last week before struggling defensivel­y during a nonconfere­nce road loss against Fort Smith Northside.

Prairie Grove 9, Gentry 0

On April 11, Logan Gragg was superb on the mound and at the plate.

The senior right-hander struck out 10 and scattered four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He also drove in three runs on four hits to pace the Tigers’ 13-hit outburst.

Reed Orr, Gavin Heltemes and D.J. Strong each had two hits.

Isaac Disney was 1 for 3 with three runs, three stolen bases and an RBI.

FS Northside 7, Prairie Grove 1

The Grizzlies scored six unearned runs on six Tigers’ errors in the non conference game on April 15.

Gragg and Dodd combined for four of the Tigers’ five hits, all singles. Isaac Disney reached on a walk, stole three bases and scored on a passed ball for the Tigers’ lone run in the third inning.

Heltemes allowed one earned run on two hits in two innings. Reed Orr allowed no earned runs on four hits in four innings.

Prairie Grove 9, Berryville 1

A seven-run first inning was more than enough as the Tigers pounded Berryville in 4A-1 Conference action on April 14.

Three Prairie Grove pitchers combined to allow just two hits and no earned runs with 12 strikeouts. Gavin Heltemes earned the win, with Nick Quinton and Dylan Soehner also seeing time on the mound. Soehner pitched four innings and allowed just one hit with seven strikeouts.

Heltemes had a big day at the plate, going 2 for 2 with a triple.

Sam Dodd was 1 for 3 with three RBIs.
