Schools To Receive Technology Funds

- By Lynn Kutter

PRAIRIE GROVE — Prairie Grove School District will use federal money from a program called eRate Funding to upgrade its technology network equipment in the district.

The district applied for more than $ 113,000 in eRate Category 2 funding last spring. School officials recently learned $ 58,496 was approved.

The district will pay the balance of the money requested.

The technology project calls for 25 Cisco switches and 30 Cisco wireless access points. Switches and access points are network devices that connect computers, printers and buildings together and allows the district to build a good computer network.

Allen Williams, superintendent of schools, said the project will allow the network to handle more devices and to upgrade access points.

The district has increased access points at the elementary and middle schools and this will allow the district to eventually have access points for every classroom at the high school.

Williams updated Prairie Grove School Board members on the project at their Oct. 18 meeting.

In other business, the School Board voted to renew its three-year financial advisory agreement with First Security Beardsley Public Finance.

The board also approved two student transfers from Prairie Grove to Farmington and accepted two resignations from food service employees.
