Farmington Assistant Football Coaches

High-Tech Cardinal Coach

- By Mark Humphrey

FARMINGTON — Assistant varsity football coach Jarod Morrison is the Technology Coordinator for Farmington Public Schools. He attended the University of Arkansas and Farmington High School.

Morrison taught for two years at Farmington before becoming Technology Coordinator. He previously coached with the Cardinal program from 2004-2009, then got out of coaching after going into the technology department.

“I had a baby, I had two kids at the time, my job demanded too much,” Morrison said.

In the meanwhile, his children grew older and he found simply he wanted to be involved beyond promoting the football program through social media. Morrison has returned to Farmington football as volunteer — despite carrying a coaching license.

“We were able to hire an extra person for my office,” Morrison said, explaining that frees up some of his time, but his coaching is still limited.

“I just coach high school, I make it out to practice every day at 3:30 p.m.,” Morrison said. “I’m a volunteer, I do it because I love it.”

Farmington officials have offered to pay Morrison, but he politely declined, pointing out the football coaches start doing film and supervising players stretching out at 1:30 p.m.

“I miss two hours of practice,” Morrison said.

Yet, he gives Farmington another set of eyes and ears on the sideline and helps keep a good ratio of coaches to players with school enrollment growing and more athletes coming out for football.

“The fact that we try to go two squads, offense and defense,” Morrison said. “We don’t have a lot of bleedoff. We need more coaches.”

Morrison used to coach both the offensive and defensive line, but now focuses exclusively on defense with the help of intern Matt Kolb.

“He gets them warmed up,” Morrison said. “We work together when I get there.”

According to the school’s football website, Farmington High School was established in 1924. Since then, the Cardinals have not only added a football program, but excelled in it. The program has had many undefeated season’s throughout it’s history including season’s 1972 and 1973, in which the Cardinals had 34 wins without a loss including the playoffs and state championships. Today the Cardinals are in the 5A West conference, coached by Mike Adams and staff, including Morrison. With a rich history, the Cardinals are building up the program constantly. Fans can follow the team’s success through social media, including: Instagram, Twitter and more.
