Sharing Cookbooks, Recipes Is Fun

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

Five interested people met in the Lincoln library Monday for a recipe exchange. It was interesting and enjoyable as each one shared experiences and ideas in cooking, some telling of long- ago friends sharing recipes, also ideas that they substituted one ingredient for another. Dorothy Straub, who organized the meeting, had a table full of cookbooks displayed, some very old and a variety to choose from and go through. The group plans to meet again in two months.

Everyone is welcome; bring your own favorite recipe, and you might find one you like. I came home with one, “Onion shortcake” that I was curious about. One reason that it is called short cake, might be because two of the ingredients are 1/2 cup of butter and a full cup of sour cream.

The Lincoln Kitchen Band visited the Stilwell Nursing Home on Tuesday, and they enjoyed the event as usual. One little lady resident entertained us, as she kept time to the music, dancing and swaying non-stop, lots of fun for her and everyone else. The many large, framed pictures are the nicest I’ve ever seen, making a real “homey” place.
