Cards Defeated On Day Three

GULF SHORES, ALA. — After winning twice in a doublehead­er, March 20, 9-5 against Hackleberg, Ala., and 9- 8 over Spring Hill, out of Columbia, Tenn., Farmington lost, 4-1, to First Assembly Christian, of Cordova, Tenn. on March 21.

The early rounds of the tournament were held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex, at Gulf Shores, Ala.

Farmington was retired in order in the top of the first. Cade Fenton started on the hill and retired the side in the first with two strikeouts. Tyler Gregg led off the second with a single but was stranded at third. Fenton issued 3 walks and allowed one unearned run with two strike-outs to fall behind 1-0 after two innings.

Farmington made some noise in their next at- bat. Logan Bobak singled with two outs in the third inning. Ryan Larkin followed with a double. Blake Putnam had an RBI single to score Bobak and Larkin was gunned down at the plate to end the inning.

Fenton shut them down in the third for a 1-1 tie after three innings of play. Gregg led off fourth with a double, but was stranded at third again. Fenton retired the side in the fourth with two strikeouts. Trenton McChristia­n singled with one out but was stranded at second when Larkin lined out to shortstop to end the inning.

Fenton allowed one walk and one hit to score a run and Farmington trailed 2-1 after five innings. Fenton was then removed due to reaching his maximum pitchcount after five innings. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits with 6 walks and 7 strikeouts. Farmington went down in order in the sixth inning. Kyle Gates pitched the sixth inning and allowed three hits, one walk, and two runs. The Cardinals trailed 4-1 after six innings.

Tripp Cheney led off the seventh with a walk and Eric Hill was hit by a pitch, but the Cardinals were stopped again by the crafty left- handed Massy as he stranded both runners to pitch a complete game.
