Alumni Planning Meeting Set For Tuesday
To all interested Lincoln Alumni, remember the alumni planning meeting next Tuesday, June 6, at 6 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.
Also coming up decorations will be this Sunday, June 4, at the following cemeteries, Edmiston, Fall Creek, Mt. View, Summers, Friendship.
Now June is here, it is Cancer in the Sun month, child vision awareness, vision research, dream work, safety, rebuild your life, fireworks safety, dairy, turkey lovers, beef steak, fresh fruit and vegetables, frozen yogurt, iced tea, candy, pest control, rose, men’s, rivers, fabric care and perennial gardening.
We also have D-Day June 6, Flag Day June 14, Father’s Day June 18 and the first day of Summer June 21. (Where did Spring go?)
Concerning D-Day 1944, there is now a National D-Day memorial in Bedford, Va., the site chosen because Bedford suffered the nation’s severest per capita. From the county of Bedford, 44 soldiers, sailers and airmen took part in the invasion, the infantry, navy (supporting the landing) and airmen as part of bombardment.
A total of 20 Bedford boys gave their lives that day, including 16 who were killed and 4 wounded within minutes of the landing on Omaha Beach. May we never forget the sacrifices made during those four years of World War II ( and other wars) for the freedoms we enjoy.
No, Freedom is not free. Happy birthday to Cody Chambliss, Roger Reed, Dorothy Straub, Evelyn Thompson, Pauline Batson, Dean Cheatham, Rodney Abshier, Audra Hacker, Marnie Long.
Happy anniversary to Sam and Maxine King, Mary and Nathan Cochran, David and Carolyn Latta.
Happy years, all!
