Cardinal Care Center Opens In New Space

- By Lynn Kutter

FARMINGTON — Cardinal Care Center in Farmington has moved a few doors down and now has double the space to serve the community, said Sherri Gansz, owner and licensed certified social worker.

Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed the business in its new space last week with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony and afterward, the center hosted an open house for visitors to tour the new office.

Gansz, who also is a licensed alcohol and drug addiction counselor, said Cardinal Care Center first opened five years ago in August 2012, in an office with about 1,000 square feet.

“We just outgrew our space,” Gansz said.

The center moved to its new area in July and has more than double the space the space, 2,800 square feet. Gansz said staff and volunteers took down one wall and completely remodeled the inside. One important job was making the office more soundproof so outside noises and sounds from other offices would not be distracting to counselors and their clients.

The new address is 128 Southwinds, Suite 5 & 6. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

The center is changing its focus somewhat to “be all about the community,” Gansz said.

She wants the office to be an integrated wellness center that serves the community of Farmington.

The location on Southwinds Drive has worked well for the center and Gansz believes it will be even better with the opening of the new high school on Highway 170. She expects to see more growth in that area of Farmington and said the center will be ready to help those in need.

In addition to Gansz, others in the center are Mindy Grusing, licensed certified social worker; Lee Ann Nimmo, licensed professional counselor; Carrie Jenkins, board-certified music therapist; and Jacquelyn Scalf, reading specialist.

The center also has four interns on the master’s level and Gansz is excited to have them as part of the team.

“Our interns all have wonderful backgrounds,” she said. “They are so happy to do something and put what they’re learning in school to use in the center.”

The center offers yoga, music therapy, dyslexia therapy, individual, family and group therapy, alcohol/ drug counseling and flotation therapy.

She is considering some new services for the future, such as grief support groups and pain management groups. Other support groups may be available for those dealing with depression, anxiety and drug and alcohol addictions. Another possibility is a support group for teen anxiety.

The center recently started offering yoga classes and Gansz is interested in expanding these in the future for children, pre-natal and teenagers.

“We’re just looking at the needs in the community,” Gansz said. “Our business is based on community need. If we can fill a need, we will.”

The center’s clients range from age 3 to 80 years old. They come from all over Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley area. Many come from the University of Arkansas and Gansz said her counselors have a passion for college students.

For more information, the center has a website, cardinalcarecenterar.com and a Facebook page. Phone number is 479-267-6934.
