LINCOLN — Big plays on runbacks, including Eli Rich’s length-of-the-field return for a score propelled the junior Wolves to a, 38-22, win over Berryville Thursday, Oct. 5.

The Bobcats took their opening possession and moved the ball into Wolf territory. Eventually, they scored, but they would get no more points until Lincoln took their starting defense out.

“We controlled the game from the very beginning,” said Lincoln coach Reed Mendoza. “They scored on their first drive, then they didn’t do anything. They only had one touchdown against our first team defense. Their last two touchdowns came after we pulled our first team defense.”

Eli Rich turned a long interception runback into a touchdown for Lincoln. The Bobcats were moving across the 50 as the second quarter expired. Another long return, this one by Daytin Davis set up Lincoln’s offense inside Bobcat territory. Junior Wolf quarterback Tyler Brewer ran for a touchdown.

Lincoln received the second half kickoff and moved the ball on the legs of Noe Avellenada. The junior Wolves completed a pass inside Berryville’s 20. From there, Avellenada ran the ball in for a touchdown. Davis caught a touchdown pass later in the third. In the fourth, Rich took a jet sweep nearly 30 yards before being brought down at the Bobcat 15. Avellenada punched the ball in from the five.

Lincoln quarterbacks Brewer (6 of 7, 80 yards,1 touchdown) and Avellenada (2 of 2, 19 yards) threw with accuracy and the junior Wolves’ running game did its part by producing 116 yards on 17 rushes for 7.3-yardsper-run. Avellenada ran 10 times for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns. Weston Massey carried the ball 4 times for 16 yards. Brewer ran twice for 21 yards and a touchdown.

“We ran the ball a lot against Berryville,” Mendoza said. “Noe had a big night. Tyler rushed for a touchdown as well. We just kind of lined up and played assignment football. Our offensive line played well up front.

Rich caught 3 passes for 46 yards. Davis had two catches for 23 yards and a touchdown. Pena chipped in two catches for 19 yards and Avellenada had one reception for 11 yards.

With the win Lincoln improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference competition.
