Lincoln’s Junior Wolves Dismantle Huntsville, Rack Up 426 Yards

- By Mark Humphrey

A junior high game on the road at Huntsville on Thursday, Oct. 19, turned into a one-sided affair with Lincoln dominating en route to a 41-7 victory.

“Our offense was clicking very well, especially in the second half,” said Lincoln head junior high coach Reed Mendoza. “It was one of those nights.”

“I can’t pinpoint any one kid. Tyler Brewer played well. Cade Redfern played well. Eli Rich played well. Daytin Davis always plays well. Everyone touched the ball. We didn’t rely on any one guy. The offensive line played great, too.”

Lincoln piled up 426 yards of total offense with perfect balance. The junior Wolves rushed 16 times for 157 yards, averaging 9.8 yards each time they ran the football. Brewer completed 16 of 19 passes for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was intercepted once and sacked once for a 20-yard loss while completing 82 percent of his passes. Rich led all receivers with 6 receptions for 125 yards averaging 20.8-yards-per-catch. Redfern had 5 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. Davis gained 40 yards on a pair of catches. Noe Avellenada rushed 9 times for 149 yards, posting a whopping 16.6-yards-per-carry with 2 touchdowns. He also contributed 2 pass receptions for 16 yards. Levi Wright caught one pass for 32 yards.

The junior Wolves had 10 explosive plays that went for 20 yards or more. Lincoln got started early in the contest. Avellenada broke a pair of touchdown runs. Davis broke two tackles at the 15 on his touchdown reception. With one man to beat, he juked the last Huntsville defender into falling down as Davis ran by him into the end zone. Rich had a catch at the 10 to bring Lincoln into scoring position. Redfern’s touchdown catch came in front of two Huntsville defenders. He successfully shielded the football and scored.

Mendoza applauded linebacker Noah Moore (5-11, 195) for returning a fumble on a long runback for a defensive touchdown. Defensive lineman Bryce Swinford (6-0, 265) and linebacker David Yaimkis (5-11, 180) combined on a tackle to jar the football loose with Moore (5-11, 195) picking up the pigskin.

“Noah Moore had a scoop and score from at least 35-to40 yards out,” Mendoza said.

On defense, Davis broke up a pass in the end zone. Lincoln improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in league play with the win.
