ROACH, TIDWELL EACH SCORE 19 IN CLARKSVILLE BATTLE

- By Mark Humphrey

FARMINGTON — Any after-effects of a 60-32 blowout loss at Greenwood quickly evaporated as Farmington handed Clarksville a 60-46 loss at Cardinal Arena Feb. 7.

“I’m very proud of our kids, the way they responded after a tough loss on the road,” Johnson said. “In the second half they did a good job defensively. They rebounded really well especially in the back end of the third quarter and all throughout the fourth. It was a good game in the first half. Clarksville defended Makenna Vanzant and Madisyn Pense really well, but Alexis Roach gets 19 and Joelle Tidwell gets 19 points. That’s kind of the mark of this team. They find a way to win. Players step up for us. They are a selfless bunch. They really don’t care how we get it done as long as we get it done.”

The first quarter featured the Joelle Tidwell show. The 5-9 sophomore asserted herself with 17 first-half points, including a pair of timely 3-pointers. She took advantage of her ability to handle the ball. Facing the basket against taller players she drove past them and finished at the bucket more than once.

Alexis Roach carried Farmington in the third quarter. The 5-8 junior forward scored Farmington’s first 9 points and had 14 in the quarter. Farmington fashioned a 12-0 run to close out the quarter leading 47-38, then outscored Clarksville 13-8 in the fourth to secure a 60-46 win. Tidwell and Roach led the Lady Cardinals with 19 points each and Vanzant added 14.
