Freshmen Impact

- By Mark Humphrey

WEST FORK — Lincoln fans are pondering what impact will the promotion of a pair of talented freshmen have for the Wolves as they host the District 4A-1 basketball tournament this week.

The No. 7 Wolves tipped off the tourney against No. 2 Gravette at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday with freshmen Daytin Davis and Eli Rich, son of head coach Tim Rich, added to the varsity roster. Both saw action in the regular season finale. Davis fearlessly handled the ball and contributed 7 points highlighted by a 3-pointer. Eli Rich was given the assignment of playing man-toman against West Fork’s junior guard Brenon Burks, who is adept at taking the ball to the basket. He picked up some fouls along the way but garnered valuable experience.

Lincoln’s 63-52 road win at West Fork Friday began with Brance Sugg’s 3-point play and ended with Troy Sugg’s 3-point play. In between West Fork got a game-high 22 points from Burks, but he didn’t get enough help. The only other Tiger in double figures was Mason Ramey with 13.

Troy Sugg’s 20 points, including a 3-point play with 22 seconds left to seal the game, powered Lincoln past West Fork. The Wolves had balanced scoring with Sterling Morphis and Braden Umberson scoring 13 apiece. Brance Sugg added 9. Caleb Hale controlled the defensive boards for Lincoln.
