May Quickly Turning Into June

It seems like only yesterday that we reported the beginning of May, the month of Decorations. Now, suddenly, we’re into June, with yet more decorations.

This Sunday, the 3rd, will be decorations at Edmiston, Fall Creek, Mountain View, Summers, and Friendship.

June also is full of special dates and celebrations. Flag Day is June 14; Father’s Day the 17th; and on the 15th, our state of Arkansas will be 182 years old!

June is Dairy Month, International Men’s Month, Rose, River, Student Safety, Fireworks Safety, Perennial Gardening, People Skills, Vision Research, Child Vision Awareness, Cancer In The Sun Awareness, Rebuild Your Life, Fabric Care, Pest Control, Turkey Lovers, Beef Steak, Iced Tea, Candy and Frozen Yogurt Month.

With attempted scams so prevalent, I wonder if each month should start with a “scam warning.”

Monday, Robin Mizell, from the Attorney General’s office, visited the Lincoln Senior Center, reporting how to prevent scams and identity theft, and also a short speech on cleaning out old prescriptions. She displayed a large assortment of items on the subjects, free to those who would like to know more.

One day recently, the same number came up four times on my phone, all from California. I have only some cousins and a friend in California, and that number wasn’t theirs. That evening, a local friend called and said, “Marie, Aunt Helen is trying to reach you.” (She had moved.) I got her new number, called, and we had a good visit. That one instance makes me dislike scams even more — those four calls were from her.

George and Lorene are welcomed back from vacation, so there will be Gospel singing in the Senior Center Monday, June 4; Kitchen band, Tuesday, June 5; and Jam session, Wednesday, June 6.
