LOCAL LIBRARIES GEAR UP FOR SUMMER READING

Local libraries want children to read during the summer and staff members are doing their part to make this happen with special programs and events.

Farmington, Prairie Grove and Lincoln are using the same theme for the summer program: Libraries Rock! Parents are encouraged to register their children, ages 5 and older, at one of the libraries for the summer reading program.

A program will be held weekly at each library. Children also will have the opportunit­y to earn prizes by reading books over the summer.

Farmington Public Library

The library is located at 175 W. Cimarron Place, 267-2674.

Farmington kicks off its summer reading club for ages 5 and older with a celebratio­n, 10 a.m., Monday, June 4. The program will be held 10 a.m. Mondays from June 4 to July 31. Other summer programs are Story Time for toddlers at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays in June and July; and Lego Building Challenges, 2-4 p.m., Tuesdays, June 5 to July 10.

Some of the special events for the summer include:

10 a.m., Monday, June 11, magician, George Reader.

2-3 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, a solar system ambassador.

10 a.m., Monday, June 25, musician, Dino O’Dell,

10 a.m., Friday, July 6, magician, Tommy Terrific.

Lincoln Public Library

The library is located at 107 W. Bean St., 824-3294.

Lincoln’s summer reading program for ages 3-9 will be held 10 a.m. Wednesdays from June 6 to July 25.

Special events include: 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, magician, Tommy Terrific.

10 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, Leonardo Music Concert.

Prairie Grove Children’s Library

The library is located at 123 S. Neal St., 846-3782.

Prairie Grove Children’s Library will have a summer kickoff pool party from 7-9 p.m., Monday, June 18 at the Prairie Grove Aquatic Park. Admission is free for all.

The summer reading program will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesdays, June 20 to July 25. All ages are welcome. Other programs in the summer are story time for toddlers, 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursdays; a monthly book club for fourth to sixth grades and a monthly book club for first through third grades. Special events include: 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, Dino O’Dell.

1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, a children’s talent show.
