Friends Gather To Remember Loved One

- MARIE ROY WCN Columnist

Friends gathered in the Sugar Hill Church Saturday morning for a memorial service, in memory of Carol VonCannon, a dear friend who passed on recently. A potluck lunch followed for fellowship and sharing memories of our dear friend. She is surely missed by all.

Coming up, on Monday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m., the regular meeting for recipe exchange will be in the library. Each one is to bring a good household hint in addition to a copy of a recipe for exchange.

One Aug. 11, 12, and 13, a Perseid Meteor Shower is expected. Hopefully, it will be plain to see, in spite of the many lights now shining everywhere. At one time, “falling stars” were enjoyed. Now, the “Milky Way,” “Seven Sisters,” “Big Dipper” bright accumulations of stars can’t be seen as they once were.

Remember to water your hydrangeas well this month, if it happens not to rain enough. They need plenty of moisture, as during August they set buds for next year’s blossoms. I did so miss the blooms this year because of the late spring freeze, and I hope to make up for that next year. After having all the dead stalks cut off, they have grown well, with now plenty of foliage.

To close a dry month of July we finally received over an inch of rain, with a day or two of cloudy skies (no sun to dry it up.) Hopefully August will be a little better.

It is almost school time, as most schools begin the middle of August. At least they will have air conditioning, a plus during this hot time of the year. Our best wishes for all the students and teachers.

Happy birthday greetings to Emogene Hutchinson, Jean McKelvy, Ron Thomas ,Tonya Umberson, Jackie Bradley, Harold Nelson, Michelle Ramsey, Larry Meyer, JoAnn Matthews, Sally Metcalf, Barbara (Mrs. Don) Griscom, Flossie Bequette.

Happy years, all!
