New Flea Market Opens Along U.S. 62

- By Lynn Kutter

PRAIRIE GROVE — The Rustic Rooster at 2350 Heritage Parkway is owned by Debra and Mark Silva and provides booths for vendors to present items for sale that include clothing, jewelry, unique gifts, personalized wall hangings, furniture and antiques.

Debra Silva said the 60-foot by 100-foot building has two bathrooms for customer use, a security system with many cameras posted throughout the business and is well-lit with high ceilings. Each booth also has its own access to electricity.

The Rustic Rooster is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.

Debra Silva said her husband owns his own business and when he was trying to decide what to put in the new building, her comment to him was, “Well, you know I’ve always wanted a flea market.”

She said they began looking at the idea of a flea market business and decided it could work.

“I love auctions and I love yard sales,” Debra Silva said.

They originally designed the building to have 50 vendor booths but some of their vendors wanted a smaller space, so they’ve halved some of their vendor spaces.

The name Rustic Rooster came about because she likes hens and roosters and began thinking about a name for the business. At first, she was leaning toward the Little, Red Hen and then thought “Rustic Rooster” sounded catchy.

The tall rooster out front was a surprise for her from her husband.

Debra said her husband called her and said he bought something at a flea market in Siloam Springs. He had to place it sideways on his trailer to get it home.

“It was perfect for the shop,” Debra said.

She’s already seen people stopping by to take their pictures with the rooster.
